Sensys Gatso receives five-year TRaaS contract, valued at SEK 28 Million, for a new school zone speed enforcement program from St. Mary’s, Georgia, USA

Sensys Gatso Group, a global leader in traffic safety solutions, has through its American subsidiary, Sensys Gatso USA, been selected by the city of St. Mary’s, Georgia, to provide school zone safety camera systems complete with software and fulfilment services. The estimated value of this Traffic Enforcement as a Service (TRaaS) program is $3 Million USD, corresponding to SEK 28 million, over the five-year period.
In July of 2018, legislators passed Georgia House Bill 978, allowing speed cameras to be used for traffic enforcement in school zones. The new law stipulates that drivers must be recorded on camera going at least 10 mph over the speed limit, and that fines range from $75 to $125. For the first time, this has opened the door in Georgia to automated enforcement in critical school zones where children’s safety is paramount.
The historic city of St. Mary’s is the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore, the largest of the Georgia Coast's barrier islands. Its territory is immediately bordered by Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, which is the home port for several Ohio-class submarines.
The installation of the fixed pole speed cameras in St. Mary’s is expected to commence in late spring or early summer 2020, based upon permitting approvals and construction. “School zone safety is the most important work that we do at Sensys Gatso USA, and keeping children safe is a mission that we can all share” says Andrew Noble, President, Sensys Gatso USA.
