Sensys Gatso receives approval for five-year TRaaS contract from Jamestown, New York valued at SEK 32 million for school zone speed enforcement

02-12-2020

Sensys Gatso Group, a global leader in traffic safety systems, through its subsidiary, Sensys Gatso USA has been approved by the council for a five-year contract from the City of Jamestown, NY. The contract is being awarded for the management of a school zone safety program that is expected to be turned on in 2021. The value of this award is estimated at USD 3.8 Million, corresponding to SEK 32 Million, over the five years, and also makes provisions for additional contract extensions.

In August of 2019, New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo signed a key bill into law allowing automated traffic enforcement cameras to be used in school zones during school hours. This approval from the city council to move forward with this program is the first step in the process for Jamestown. In addition to the council’s approval, this program must also be supported via home rule legislation. Once accepted, this program would be implemented in 2021.

This new contract would expand the footprint of Sensys Gatso in the state of New York. School zone speed enforcement and red light intersection enforcement are currently included in the managed service programs provided by Sensys Gatso. These programs are well underway in the city of Buffalo as well as in the state’s capital, the city of Albany.

This program, once given the approval to proceed, will be managed entirely by Sensys Gatso USA and will become operational in 2021. Cameras will be positioned on fixed poles at approximately nine school zone locations around Jamestown and will be actively capturing speeding vehicles during the designated school zone enforcement hours.

“When a city makes the decision to use automated enforcement for critical applications such as school zone speed, we feel as though children’s safety increases exponentially. Once drivers know that the city of Jamestown means business when it comes to stopping speeding in school zones, there will likely be a swift change in driver behavior and for the better” says Andrew Noble, President, Sensys Gatso USA.

This information is information that Sensys Gatso Group AB (publ) is obliged to make public pursuant to the EU Market Abuse Regulation. The information was submitted for publication, through the agency of the contact person set out above, at 10.35 on 2 December 2020.
