Sensys Gatso receives TRaaS Managed Services contract for traffic safety in Newton, IA, worth SEK 100 million

Sensys Gatso Group, a global leader in traffic safety solutions, through its subsidiary, Sensys Gatso USA, has executed a five-year base-term automated speed enforcement contract with the City of Newton, IA, USA. The contract is estimated to be worth up to USD 10 million, corresponding to SEK 100 million. The program is anticipated to begin in late spring of 2024 with fixed speed systems along a dangerous stretch of Interstate 80.
“We look forward to partnering with the City of Newton to address their traffic safety concerns”, said Sensys Gatso USA President and Managing Director, Bill Braden. “Our team is ready to work with the city to implement their specifically designed automated traffic safety program. Through technology, automated traffic enforcement becomes a police force multiplier for the city and helps effectively manage traffic and enhance safety in their community.
The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has designated a stretch of I-80 from County Road F-48 to Newton as a safety corridor due to the frequency and severity of crashes on that stretch of highway.
In a November press release Scott Marler, Iowa Director of Transportation said, “We have seen speeds and distraction behind the wheel rise and only 40 percent of those who die on Iowa’s roads are wearing a seatbelt. Unfortunately, our state’s climbing fatality rates are showing the consequences of our individual decisions behind the wheel. We all have someone who is expecting us to return from each trip safely. Creating safety corridors is just another way the DOT can help remind drivers of the role they play in making sure everyone returns home safely.”
